History of our company<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Net-Foodlab Oy was founded in 1997 by three food chemists Tuomas Virtalaine, Tomi Mattila and Anu Johansson. They felt that there was no proper service laboratory in Finland, so the only option was to start their own company. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company initially operated in Myn\u00e4m\u00e4ki, but moved to Turku in 1999 to the kitchen of LSO’s former slaughterhouse and ham cutting plant. The red and white checkered floor of the new laboratory reminded Virtalaine that he had already got to know the space over many breakfasts ten years earlier, when he was working as a summer intern at LSO’s ham cutting plant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company moved to its current premises in Voimakatu in November 2004. Thanks to an expansion a little over a year later and the establishment of a subsidiary in Estonia in 2008, Net-Foodlab Eesti O\u00dc, the premises have been sufficient, although at times it has been cramped and external storage has been needed on several occasions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gradually, Net-Foodlab Oy established its place in the Finnish laboratory scene. In 2008, the company started to provide food industry auditing services to DNV Business Assurance Finland Oy Ab, and this was the starting point for the still ongoing growth of the food safety business. For a considerable number of Finnish food companies, Mattila and Virtalaine are now the epitome of unannounced supplier audits. They already have over 1000 audits experience in various certification and supplier audits in Finland, the Baltic States, Sweden, France and the USA. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, Net-Foodlab Oy runs two FINAS-accredited laboratories (T205)*, imports and sells Hygiena International and Biosystems AS products in Finland, Estonia and Sweden and provides food safety services on a very large scale throughout Finland. *Net-Foodlab Oy, Laboratory is a testing laboratory accredited by FINAS Accreditation Service T205, accreditation requirement SFS-EN ISO\/IEC17025. Read more here.<\/a> The company has a quality team of 11-persons that manages audits, testing systems, food safety standards, quality management consulting and training, and outsourced quality and laboratory management services. Such extensive food safety expertise cannot be found in any other service provider in Finland. This is something we are proud of.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have been awarded the “Carbon footprint calculated” label by the Central Chamber of Commerce. The label shows that we have calculated the scope 1 and 2 emissions of our operations in accordance with the international GHG protocol for the most recent financial year. The label is a testament to our responsibility and our desire to make our operations more climate-resilient. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
